The
Student Success Team is an excellent early intervention program. It
is a function of the general education program. Our team consists of
an administrator, chairperson, classroom teacher, literacy coach, a
special education teacher, and the parent(s) or guardian(s). When
necessary the team may call upon former teachers, the school nurse,
school psychologist, or other appropriate personnel to attend
meetings as well.
The team uses a systematic problem solving approach to assist
students who are having difficulties in academics, behavior, health,
attendance, or other school-related issues.
The team identifies each student's strengths, discusses previous
interventions tried, clarifies problems and concerns, and provides
support for these issues. Assistance is provided as strategies to be
used by teachers or parents as well as provide organization
resources that may be available through the district, county, or
state. Follow-up meetings are often scheduled within 2 to 5 months
to monitor the results of the interventions and discuss possible
referral for special education assessment.
